About the Role

Purpose

The main objective of this exercise is to onboard one MSSQL expert with knowledge on management of MSSQL databases in a Hyper-V environment and to work with following the two streams:

Analyze the existing MSSQL installations by interacting with different stakeholders and provide us the suggestions on how to optimize our existing MSSQL installations.

Define requirements, recommendations and guidelines for installations and management of MSSQL database (including new backup/restore strategies) in the new Hyper-V environment.

The scope will be managed in TFS.  Resource will assist with some User Stories and details.

Tasks

The study/analyze on the existing MSSQL installations gives an overview of the gaps that are currently existing and provides an insight to the area of improvement for better maintainability of databases.

The findings and the recommendations provided, based on the findings, will be helpful to optimize the existing databases setup and also helps define the requirements of upcoming database service in the Hyper-v environment.

 

The scope/requirements will be managed in TFS.

 

These requirements will be defined more in detail and prioritized for the first phase(s). Some requirements will be moved to execution phase.

Mandatory / Desired
Qualifications:

  • Co-ordinate with respective stakeholders to understand the existing databases setup and the way in which it is maintained
  • Define and document checklists and best practices for the existing MSSQL installations.
  • Create an installation checklist for SQL Server 2012
  • Collect & Define recommendations for MSSQL2012 on Windows Server 2008.
  • Provide suggestions and steps for optimizing our existing MSSQL databases.
  • Drive checking of missing indexes (in order to improve SQL query performance)
  • Drive check of ‘tempdb’ usage and define SQL Tempdb considerations, configuration best practices/checklists.
  • Define an improved Backup strategy
  • Define how to setup and manage Clusters and Availability groups
  • Define checklist for SQL Server parameters

 

  • Create a SQL Server maintenance plan for automated tasks
  • Define Storage infrastructure requirements for new MSSQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V environment.
  • Prepare a plan for installation and management of MSSQL 2012 in the new Hyper-V environment on Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • Collect & Define Requirements and Best Practices for MSSQL2012 on Windows Server 2012R2
  • Define and detail requirements and processes for the new database environment.
  • Define recommendations for management for MSSQL2012 on Windows Server 2012R2 Hyper-V environment.
  • Analyse how many databases of TYPE x can be  able to run in Hyper - V replica (and later on in the new hotel environment)
